PORT STEPHENS - Whale Watching
Season June - October

Whale Watching has been identified as one of the ultimate wildlife experiences to witness. The Humpback Whales enormous size and the way it is able to majestically propel itself skyward with powerful thrusts of its tail and crashes back into the ocean, is a sight to behold.

It is estimated that between 3,000 and 4,000 humpback whales migrate north to the tropics from late May to July and return to the Antarctic in September to November.

Port Stephens is the ideal location to witness this migration every year, with 1000's of visitors converging to the area to witness this spectacle firsthand. The Whales are able to be viewed from the shores and headlands within the Port Stephens area on this annual migration.

DOLPHINS

Coincidentally, Port Stephens is also known as the `Dolphin Capital of Australia'.

A large number of Bottlenose dolphins reside permanently in the waters off Port Stephens. These Dolphins can be seen swimming and racing the various boats and pleasure craft that leave the harbour to explore the Port Stephens waterways.

Dolphins are generally considered the most intelligent and best-loved creature in the sea.

Local, Interstate and International visitors regularly comment on the number of dolphins within the area and there playful like attitude with the passing boats.
